Teaching the History of the Arab-Israeli Conflict Using Primary Sources

Overview

In this program, you will understand the history of this complex conflict – from its origins in late 19th century nationalist movements up to the mid-2000s – and focus on turning points and key events along the way. Participants will learn new strategies for engaging students with primary source documents, collaborate with fellow educators, and receive ready-to-use lesson plans and standards-aligned curriculum.

What Topics are Covered?

  • Emergence of Zionism and Arab nationalism
  • World War I and the broken promises made to Arabs and Jews
  • The British Mandate Era
  • State formation and peace treaties
  • Continuing conflict and unresolved issues

Program Details

  • This learning track lasts three days and meets for 3 hours per day (for a total of 9 hours) from 9am-12pm
  • Participants will receive a $200 stipend and 9 CTLE credits upon completion of the program 

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed and participants will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each Summer Institute will be capped to ensure a productive cohort learning experience.
