Religion and Politics

Overview

Judging by headlines from the Middle East, religion seems to play an outsize role in the politics in the region. This lesson focuses on the complex and diverse religious landscape of four Middle Eastern countries: Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, and Iran. These countries have different systems of government, different religious compositions, and different relationships between religion and politics. This lesson considers the variety of ways that religion and politics are intertwined in each country. Teachers of World History, Modern History, Global Politics, and Geography will find this session particularly useful.
